Well, here we go, blog #1. I have never been a “blogger” before, but as we have moved to California, we thought a blog to be appropriate for those who would like to still be kept in the loop as to what is happening in our lives. And so, here I am starting a blog. I’m hoping to update our blog on Sundays, crossing my fingers. I am hoping to keep anyone who cares to be updated, updated.
So here we go—Week 1—We have moved to the suburbs of Los Angeles, in a small town called La Canada Flintridge which is the home to about 20,000 people give or take and is approx. 25-30 minutes from down LA. There is a little squiggle over the “n” in Canada that makes it pronounced as “Cahn-yada.” Makes it sound more sophisticated & distinguished doesn’t it?!? La Canada Flintridge is located at the foot of the Angeles National Forest where there were massive fires here just a few months ago. This mountain range is gorgeous and I will have to post some pictures of it soon. It is very mountainy similar to Utah.
My first week here constituted of the following fiascos: 1. My trip to Costco, 2. Haley vomiting seven times, and 3. lastly but definitely not the shortest adventure, my trip to a movie theatre.
My trip to Costco was a mess. Trying to find it in the first place took me 40 minutes because my GPS wasn’t working (it took me 20 minutes to get back, luckily as I remembered how to get back on my own). Costco is absurdly full of chaos. To find a parking spot, I had to wait at the end of the isle hoping someone would leave soon as the parking lot was completely full. I discovered that finding a parking spot could become quite a competition as one person physically got out of his car to yell at another car who was going to take “his” spot. To say the least, I was mortified and I packed my car quickly with my items & children & got in the car, locked our doors, and got out of there as quickly as possible.
Haley was sick this week, vomiting seven times in one day. Lucky for me, she made it to her “vomit bucket” every time and lucky again, it only lasted for about 24 hours. She is now back to her old self prancing around in her princess fairy costume and taunting her little brother.
My last and most recent adventure, was trying to take Haley to see The Princess and the Frog in the nearby town Glendale. Craig told me to go to something called The Americana, which we both thought was a movie plaza, but lo & behold we were wrong…ever so wrong. The Americana is a massive plaza that boasts a huge indoor mall, outside shopping, restaurants, apartments and has thousands and thousands of people and cars--walking, running, beeping, and revving. We left our home at 1:50 to make it to the 2:15 show…well, I found a parking spot at 2:25, found the entrance into the mall after walking aimlessly through the parking garage with no sense of direction, just cars idling behind me, hoping I was leaving. At 2:35 I discovered the theatre was indeed not inside the mall, but across the street. I was overwhelmed to say the least and had no idea how to get to even the street and to which street it was across. So, we walked through the parking garage again, not knowing if we were in the correct parking garage, as there were three separate parking garages, found our car, and again tried to find this movie theatre. Well, long story short, I finally found that dang theatre at about 2:50. We ended up going to another theatre a few blocks away, paid $19.50 for our tickets, it was just Haley & I—I am still astounded to the price-- and watched the movie. The movie turned out to be one of the worst movies I have ever seen and would not recommend anyone taking their small children to it as it was fairly scary with the “voo doo” spirits & such. But all in all, Haley enjoyed her popcorn & her slushy drink.
So, in a nutshell, I have come to the conclusion that I love the California weather but do not love the astounding traffic of the cars and the people.
Happy Holidays to all!!

So glad to see pictures of the pool... send many more of the inside so we can see where you're living. Thanks for the blog to find out how life is, and so sorry about all the traffic fiasco's you'll turn into Mom shopping at 5am to avoid all people :) Merry Christmas late, and Happy New Year early!!!
ReplyDeleteIts about time you got into the blogging thing!! I am so jealous of your pool and weather, but you're right that is the worst thing about California, traffic, it takes forever to get anywhere because of all the people.
